ABOUT ME

I have been fortunate to have been taught some solid money lessons from an early age, which have stayed with me throughout my life. In the late 1980’s, I left the University of Cape Town with a Business Science Degree, and walked straight into Old Mutual, one of the largest financial institutions in Africa at the time, where I ended up spending many fulfilling years.

As a market development manager, I started a focus on women – empowering and educating women around money and financial planning. It was incredibly rewarding, and I worked closely with the media, reaching thousands of people through radio, print media and face-to-face workshops.

I left the comfort (and confines) of the corporate world at the end of 2014, to spread my wings and build on my passion for financial education and empowerment. I embarked on a new career as a financial planner, while also focussing on my other passion, writing!

I have written hundreds of financial articles over the years, and I have written and contributed to several non-fiction books, not all to do with money! I also write a monthly column in Woman&Home magazine and write on a freelance basis for numerous other print and online publications.

“Whilst her audiences may change, two things about her never do: her up-to-date grasp of financial matters and a wonderful, infectious energy that she exudes as she imparts the knowledge to empower. She has the great ability to make her audience feel at ease whilst at the same time, challenges their attitudes and ideas. It’s always a real pleasure to listen to her speak.”

Ingrid Roberts

“Sylvia hosted a series of workshops “Money Matters” at our Head Office to equip staff to make informed decisions about their money. It was a pleasure working with Sylvia, she was an engaging workshop facilitator and the feedback from the staff who have attended has been very positive.”
